My Very First Companion, Simbo

I don't used to love dogs. Whenever I go to my friend's house, I would always just ignored their dog. But now, I have to handle a dog which is as tall as my shoulder till my national service ends. For just only the first week of my dog handler course, I built a very special bond with my dog. This was the first time I had feelings with an animal. It's like, everytime when you see him and play with him, really brightens up your day. But sadly, I have to leave him in a week time.

Things were doing great in this new course. It's been sometimes since I study and have to kill so many brain cells. Great Singapore Sales is here! This is the only time when I can get new clothes every year. Went for window shopping at Tampines today with cousin Huan Long. Not many nice shirts available. Should have gone down to town to have a look.

Anyway, Happy Birthday Boon! =D Got a special gift for you.

Always Be Happy

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is never between you and them anyway.”

Finally, I got posted out of Clementi Camp. I am so looking forward to my 2 weeks of dog handler course! New things to learn, new experience and new challenges!

Yesterday, suppose to book out at 3pm but got delayed till 6pm and couldn't get a cab home so in the end, called a cab. Got back home and went to meet up with my BMT mates, ben, lincoln, joel and ps for supper at Upp Thomson. Miss them so much but then, I was too tired to chat with them. We had supper at Prata House. We waited for the food for so long! About 45mins? After that, we went over to Udders for ice-cream!

My Facebook's news feed were full of Army Open House's photos. Looking at all those photos makes me so tempted of going too! Anyway, had dinner with Ted at E!hub today. We went to Mr Chicken Rice for dinner. Now then I realised, the owner of this shop was actually the Chef from Meritus Mandrain Hotel that sells the famous chicken rice at chatterbox.

After that, we went to have soya beancurd for dessert. The shop So-Yea sells their beancurd in either cup or bowl. I have never tried eating beancurd through cup using a straw to eat. It comes in a few varieties of flavours too and the beans they used were 100% organic. One day I want to go down and try the other different flavours.

20.21% Completed!

Didn't manage to follk out time to update my blog during the past 3 weeks. I will be writing only a few things that happened during the past few weeks.

I had already been posted to my new camp at Clementi! I had to leave house 2 hours before the reporting time. Things were during great there. And indeed, really had a culture shock. Things wasn't the same as BMT. You have to be responsible of what you're doing unlike BMT, everything was already planned for you.

During the first day of my enlistment, I was thinking about my family but the first day of my new unit, my mind was full of my platoon mates in BMT.  I misses them and wish that they were here with me. After chatting with them, then, I realised that I am not the only one feeling that way. After our 1 week inside camp, we managed to meet up together and had our dinner at Chijmes, Carnivores.

Last week I managed to folk out some time and cook Itek Tim (Salted Vegetable Duck Soup) for my family. It's quite successful and easy dish to cook. With only simple ingredients like Duck and Salted Vegetables (obviously), Chilli, Sour Plums, Tomatoes, Onions, Garlic,Ginger and White Peppercorn. I stew it for about 3 hours and I did not add any seasoning to it. My grandmother complained that my soup too oily and salty but to me, I think I managed to cook roughly the same taste as what I had in Malacca.

I cooked

Malacca's style

Currently blogging at airport Ya Kun. Hasn't been here for a few weeks already! Tonight, gonna have a mahjong match with ps and kenneth!

3D2N Trip to Malacca with Friends

12th April 2012 - 14th April 2012

Day 1

I was late! I was suppose to meet Joel, Kenneth and Benjamin at 7am at Boon Lay MRT station but I arrived at 7.30am! Couldn't make it on time to eat breakfast with them. But, thanks Kenneth for buying breakfast for me! Took a cab down to Boon Lay Shopping Center where we board our bus. The bus left at 8am sharp.

We had a stopover at Yong Peng at around 10:30am for half an hour. I just had a Ramily Burger to fill up my stomach.

We arrived Malacca at about 12:30pm. Check-in to our hotel immediately. We got an apartment with 2 bedrooms. It's quite a cosy apartment with mini kitchen. Took a rest a while then walk over to Melaka MegaMall for our lunch. We had A&W for lunch. I order a 2pcs chicken with curly fries and 1 cup of Root  Beer Float. I had never like Root Beer before and this was my very first time drinking 1 cup of Root Beer Float!

After our lunch, we went for window shopping around the 3 shopping malls. Most of shops are the same as Singapore. The Magnum ice-cream there is cheap! Only at RM 3.90 which is approx about SG 1.50.  After window shopping, Wai Kit, Kenneth and Joel decided to go play pool while Benjamin and I carry on walking and find some local delights to eat.

Benjamin and I went to Starbucks to get Wifi connection to search for places to eat in Malacca. We couldn't find a place so decided to ask around. In the end, we head over to Newton Food Center. The place looks dirty but quite a lot of tourists eating there. Benjamin felt so uneasy and unsafe eating there! He gave lots of negative comments on the way they prepare their food.

We ordered a cup of Iced Milo, 1 roll of popiah and a plate of rojak. The one that you will feel addicted to it was the popiah! It added fried lard in it. And the lard that they used is very different from what Singapore have. The crispiness and the aroma of the lard always stay in your mouth.

After trying those local delights, went to meet up with the rest at 5:30pm. Now, we headed over to a Peranakan Restaurant (Ole Sayang Restaurant) for our dinner. We ordered Ayam Pong Teh, Sambal Sotong, Fried Kang Kong, Otak-Otak and Itek Tim. The Itek Tim also know as duck soup, taste delicious! I wanna get the recipes and try cooking it myself!

After our dinner, we went back to hotel to rest. I felt so sleepy but doesn't want to waste my time on sleep! Benjamin and I decided to bring Joel and Wai Kit to try the popiah while Kenneth wanted to rest in hotel. We left the hotel at 8:30pm. The Newton Food Center is about 5mins walk away from our hotel.

This time, we ordered even more. We tried the Fried Oyster Omelet, Chicken Rice Ball and Char Kway Teow. The Fried Oyster Omelet taste not bad too! Benjamin doesn't dare to eat it! He's afraid that the oyster not fresh! After that, we went to buy a few bottles of beer back to hotel and decided to play poker for the rest of the night!

Day 2

My alarm rang at 8:40am. Woke the rest up and went for breakfast at Cafe Mahkota. Today was the day we know our posting. We paid for the wifi and only one user can use at a time. Wai Kit checked his posting thru his iPhone. Me and Ben couldn't check our posting thru phone as they will send you a link via sms and we don't have auto roam.

We get a refund for the wifi and decided to rent a computer for 30mins. The site loads damn slow. I was so happy to see my posting. I got to Security Trooper! Not that tough training anymore!

Went back to hotel, bathed and changed then set off for our heritage tour! Our first stop was at St. Paul's Church. Don't really know what is it about. This church was originally a small chapel built by a Portuguese Captain. It was built in 1521 A.D and when the Dutch took over Melaka from the Portuguese, they changed its name to St. Paul's Church. This church has already been around for 491 years.

Our 2nd stop was at Maritime Museum. It was a very big ship and inside it's actually a museum. The museum in the model of a Portuguese galleon reminds them of the ship "Flora De La Mar". It exhibits the Maritime history of Malacca during seven eras. The museum serves as a reminder that once the political power is lost, everything else is lost.

Next, we went to the Christ Church of Melaka! It's one of the icon of Malacca where you will always see it on brochures, advertisement or television. The Christ Church was built by the Dutch in 1753 to commemorate the centenary of their occupation of Malacca, this church took 12 years to complete. No expense was spared in building it - from the wooden ceiling beams, each cut from a single tree, to the elaborately hand-carved pews and frieze of "The Last Supper".

After that, we went to Melaka Ethnography and Historic Museum. The museum is very big. I took many photos of it. Mostly about the different culture and the olden days of Malacca. Spent about half an hour inside the museum. Then went to find the famous Nonya Makko restaurant. Walk and walk under the hot sun for an hour and finally we found the place. It was actually located just about 10mins walk away from our hotel. We took a big round. And by the time we reach there, we were late by just a few minutes and it has already close for business. So decided to come back again for dinner.

All of us were hungry. Suggested by Wai Kit, we went to have Bak Kut Teh for our lunch at 3:20pm. The soup of the Bak Kut Teh have a strong aroma taste but just that the meat is too hard. We ordered a plate of Fu Yong Omelete and Cai Poh Fish to go along with it.

After our lunch, Kenneth and I went for a full body massage for 2 hours. This was my first time trying chinese massage and they press on all your acupoint and you feel hurt! For that 2 hours, I fall asleep! After our massage, we meet up with them again for dinner. And that's like just 2 hours after our lunch only. We had our dinner at Makko restaurant. We ordered mostly the same food that we had the day before.

We went back to hotel to wash up cos my body is full of oil after the massage. At about 8:45pm, we went down to Jonker Walk for the Night Street Market. It was so crowded! The street was a very long stretch. We just kept walking and walked for 2hours. Now, we wanted to find the the stall that sells Capitol Satay but we couldn't find it. So we asked around and the direction they gave us were all wrong. We walked one big round again. In the end, we decided to took a cab.

Have you seen such a large egg tart before?

When we arrived at Capitol Satay, it was just right behind Jonker Street. We waited for about 20mins and finally we got a seat to eat. I have never ate before. It's something like a steamboat. Rather than using soup, they used satay sauce. So we went to pick our ingredients which is each stick at RM0.90. After choosing your ingredients, put the ingredients into the sauce and let it cook. They charge you by the number of sticks you have. Quite an interesting way of eating.

After supper, we went back to Jonker Street to drink. Wai Kit was totally drunk and hangover. He drank a shot of dry gin mix with beer, 2 Godfather and 1 Graveyard. He was totally flat on the ground and start snoring. At about 3am, Joel and Benjamin went out to get a cab but they couldn't get a single cab. They decided to ask the staff in the pub for help.

They managed to get us our hotel number. Benjamin called and requested for a driver but they constantly hang up our phone calls. We got no choice but to carry Wai Kit back which is about 30mins walk from our hotel. Carry him about 200m, we gave up as he was really too heavy to carry! We were stuck in the middle of the shop houses but thankfully and finally, we called the hotel again and they arranged a driver for us.

Got back to hotel at 5am. What a great night to end with.

Day 3

Slept for only 3 hours! Woke up at 9am then off to breakfast while Kenneth and Wai Kit still in bed. After breakfast, got back to hotel and change up then went off to get some goodies back to Singapore. Went back to Makko restaurant to get the pineapple tarts we ordered. Had a bowl of chendol then went back to hotel.

Woke up the others and went off for lunch at Kenny Rogers Roasters. Everybody were so addicted to their phone because there's wifi and no one wants to order! The waiter quite piss off with us. haha. After lunch, went back to hotel to check out but we were late for our check out and we couldn't enter to our room. After checking out, board the bus immediately then went back to Singapore. Got back to Singapore at 6pm!
